The objective(s) of the tool
Assigning artistic/scientific lectureships on issues of women’s studies and/or gender studies in the fields of music and theatre furthers competence and knowledge concerning gender. In doing so, international experts can be recruited as lecturers as well.
Description of the tool
In correspondence with the objectives of enhancing gender knowledge and gender competences in artistic/scientific teaching and research, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz specifically announces two artistic and four scientific gender-lectureships per academic year. Fulfillment of these objectives is mandated in the university’s statutes (see Sections 94-96). A detailed description of these aims is also included in the Development Plan for 2016-2021 (Chapter 5 Gender and Diversity), as well as in the new plan for Equal Opportunities and the Advancement of Women.
How the tool works, practical experience
Application calls for lectureships are issued regionally, nationally and internationally via the Centre for Gender Studies. Evaluation and selection of applications is entrusted to a jury of artists and scholars. Curricula committees and the Vice Rectorate for Teaching are responsible for incorporating the courses into artistic/scientific curricula or offering them as free electives.
