Relation to gender equality targets
The mentoring program is intended to aid in increasing the proportion of women in academia. Several policy documents at the University of Vienna feature the elimination of underrepresentation of women. For example, the Development Plan (Point 4.6.3 Equality and Diversity) and the Affirmative Action Plan for the Advancement of Women (Section 2)
The objective(s) of the tool
Strategic development of female post-doc researchers’ careers represents the objective of the new mentoring program postdoc:muv for female junior researchers The program invites female post-docs of all disciplines and faculties at the University of Vienna.
Description of the tool
Encompassing three semesters, the program joins three proven concepts of women’s advancement for the first time: mentoring, group coaching and training; offering participants the opportunity to optimize their career strategies regarding the manifold requirements of academic careers, to enter into individual sponsor relationships and to establish transdisciplinary (peer-)networks.
How the tool works, practical experience
muv, the program’s precursor, was evaluated repeatedly. The results indicated manifold aspects, revealing for instance different degrees of usefulness for pre- and post-doc researchers.
